PRP can be used through scalp injections to stimulate new hair growth. Platelets release growth factors which regulate the healing cascade by signaling to surrounding cells to repair damaged tissue and regenerate new tissue and hair growth. Follicles need to be present in order to be a good candidate for the procedure. Multiple sessions are usually needed, the most common is 4-6 sessions, 4-6 weeks apart.
What it is
The procedure starts with a simple blood draw which will be inserted into a centrifuge and spun down to isolate the PRP for injection. Pain control methods include topical anesthetic as well as nerve blocks for a stronger anesthetic effect. Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed and then marks will be placed on your scalp to map where the injections will go.
